There's nothing quite like sitting around the fire at Christmas time. For years, Yule logs have been filmed so people without fireplaces can simulate the experience on a TV. Our Hays County Bureau Chief Russell Wilde shows us how a popular barbecue joint is taking the "yule log" idea to the next level. People from around the world have made the trip to Driftwood to eat the meat cooked on the Salt Lick's famous open pit.

Love the open fire - Review of Salt Lick BBQ, Driftwood, TX - Tripadvisor

Huge place out in the middle of nowhere. We ate on the "newer" side where they duplicated the awesome open pit cooking area. Our server Colton was very accommodating and pleasant. I had the ribs and hubby had a mixed plate. It was all very delicious.

Ordered the brisket and pork ribs plate. Excellent choice! Comes with a side of beans thought they tasted out of a can , potato salad vinegar style and coleslaw.
A friend recommended this place because she had fond memories of it from previous visits years prior. When we got there, no outside seating, no band -- ok, we get that. But don't misrepresent the food you sell. Brisket was not warm! No smoke flavor!
